Everything we put up is engineered rather than assembled from a kit: footings drilled past the active zone of the local clay, documented uplift connections sized for Gulf wind, and powder-coated extruded aluminum with screw chases instead of sheet metal and self-tappers. Mission Elite Patio Covers has spent over 15 years building patio covers and enclosures across Hidalgo and Starr counties. We started with aluminum covers off the back of one truck and grew the way this work should grow, one job at a time, with the same crew showing up each morning. Today we build insulated and aluminum covers, screened porches, enclosures, sunrooms, pergolas, carports and pavilions for homes, and shade structures for restaurants, RV resorts and schools.
Building in the Valley is its own discipline. The heat index runs triple digits for a third of the year, the sun is hard on any finish that was not baked on at the factory, the clay under the slab moves with every wet and dry cycle, and Gulf storms send wind inland that a kit structure was never sized for. We design around all four rather than around a catalogue span chart.
We also tell people when not to hire us. If your existing frame is sound and only the mesh has gone, a rescreen costs a fraction of a rebuild and that is what we will quote. If you want the space usable in August with air conditioning running, a screen room is the wrong product and you want a glazed sunroom. We would rather quote the right thing and keep the customer.

We measure the slab, check the fascia and roof framing for a real attachment point, and talk through how you actually use the back of the house. No charge, no pressure, and we quote in English or Spanish.
Engineering and permit
We size beams, posts and footings for the span and the wind load, then pull the City of Mission permit. Where the reviewer wants stamped engineering, we provide it rather than sending you to find an engineer.
Build
Piers and anchors first, then posts, beams, roof and any screen or glazing. Most residential covers go up in three to five days once the concrete has cured properly.
Walkthrough and warranty

Do I need a permit for a patio cover in Mission?
Yes. An attached or freestanding patio cover is a permitted structure, and the city will want to see how it is anchored and how it handles wind uplift. Setbacks and lot coverage get checked at the same time. We pull the permit and handle the review as part of the job rather than leaving it with you.
What does a patio cover cost in Mission?

Insulated roof or open lattice?
If you want to sit out there in July, insulated. A lattice blocks line-of-sight sun and nothing else, so the slab underneath keeps radiating heat back at you until well after dark. A foam-core panel stops that radiant load, and in this climate you feel the difference the moment you step under it.
How do you deal with the clay soil out here?
We drill piers rather than pouring surface pads. Valley clay swells after a wet spell and shrinks through a dry one, and a post sitting on a shallow pad rides that movement until the structure racks out of square. You notice it first as a door that stops latching. Getting the footing depth right is cheaper than fixing that later.
How long does the whole thing take?
Build time is days. The calendar is what stretches it. Permit review, material lead time and, from November through March, a queue that fills with winter Texan work all add to it. We give you a realistic date at contract and start the permit then rather than at build.
Will a cover hold up in a tropical storm?
It will if it was engineered for uplift and anchored properly. A patio cover is a big flat surface on tall posts, which is close to the worst shape there is in a strong wind. The ones that end up in a neighbour's yard are almost always kits on surface pads with fasteners driven into fascia trim.
